North Carolina Travel Guide
North Carolina is known as the Tar Heel State of the United States. You can spend the day walking along the beaches of the North Carolina Coast where the Atlantic Ocean can be experienced. Here are the unique and unspoiled Outer Banks where the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is located. North Carolina is not a state known for its high-paced cities and cultural attractions. Its two best features, the mountains and the coast, are situated on opposite sides of the state, with miles of sparsely populated ground separating them. North Carolina is a holiday paradise of rustically elegant mountain resorts, some of America's top golf courses and of wide sandy mainland and island beaches stretching for mile upon mile beside the Atlantic and its sparkling bays.
North Carolina is a state full of wonderful things to visit. From the Smoky Mountains in the west of the state, to the beaches in near Cape Lookout, Cape Hatteras or near Fort Raleigh there is a lot to discover.
The main attraction for the city of Wilmington is the Battleship North Carolina, which is a memorial for World War II veterans. The North Carolina Heartland is the focal point for many businesses because of the well-populated cities in the area. Located in the North Carolina Heartland is the capital city of Raleigh and the neighboring cities of Durham and Chapel Hill. Chapel Hill is home to the University of North Carolina and Durham is home to the famous Duke University. Much of North Carolina's outdoor activities, such as skiing, hiking and biking take place in the North Carolina Mountains. Asheville is known for having America's largest private house, the Biltmore Estate. The Museum of Art, located in Hickory, has many interpretive exhibits and is the second oldest art museum in North Carolina.
